Brain Awareness Week 2013 Global Campaign organized in Bucharest by SOMS together with National Neurosciences Society of Romania and British Council received great feed-back from more than 250 participants that said the event was “a novel experience” from which they had something to take home, interesting and useful, captivating and original. Thank you all for your appreciation and we invite you to be part as well of the European Month of the Brain in which we will be organizing similar events.

In a very special way we thank our partners: Gabriela Szabo (Olympic Champion 2000), Universitatea de Medicina si Farmacie Carol Davila, Biblioteca Facultatii de Medicina, Primaria Municipiului Bucuresti, Federatia Romana de Atletism, Ministerul Tineretului si sportului, Societatea Stiintei, Excelentei Umane si Sportul  Universitar, Centrul de Cercetari pentru Sanatate si Performanta prin Sport, SMURD Bucuresti, World Class Romania, Clubul de Miscare pentru Sanatate, Directia Sport Tineret Bucuresti, ASNER and MedicalStudent.ro.

Our participants had very diverse occupations: Out of the students most were general medicine students (Bucharest, Iasi, Craiova, Constanta, etc.) followed by dentistry students, psychology, history, engineering, law, management, ASE, foreign languages and literature, veterinary medicine, etc. Out of the graduates some master students (software engineering, finances, psychology, law, neurobiology, etc). PhD Students, professors, residents (neurology, psychiatry, radiology, geriatrics, pediatric psychiatry, gastroenterology, physiotherapy). Nurses and doctors.

We had a total of 3 competitions: Differential Diagnosis Challenge, Fame-Lab and Running Brains 5km and 1km.

The winners were:

Differential Diagnosis Challenge:

3. Aloman Stefan

Their prices were a package offered by Carol Davila University Library and a one-year student membership to the British Council Library, offered by the British Council.

Fame-Lab:

1. Alexandru Ioan Voropanov
2. Liana Kobylinska
3. Alexandru Stoian

The first two places passed to ne next round of the competition and the third place is now a reserve for the next round. They also benefited from prices courtesy of the British council and National Geographic Romania which included a collection of magazines and a membership to the British Council Library.

The first 5 places from the male and female category were awarded trophies, USB sticks and diplomas courtesy of the Bucharest County and medicalstudent.ro. All participants form the Kids 1 Km race, were also awarded the same prices.

Neuroscience awareness conference at the British Council held by Presedent of National Neurosciences Society of Romania – Prof. Asoc. Dr. Mihai Moldovan and Junior Research Fellow, University of Oxford – Dr. Andrei Ilie.

Symposium “Brain: Interface matter – information” welcomed as speakers Prof. Leon Zagrean, Prof. Gheorghe Stefan, Prof. Alexandru Vlad Ciurea, Prof. Andrei Dorobantu, Prof. Florin Munteanu, Prof. Adrian Restian si a acoperit arii stiintifice de avangarda in cercetarea creierului si functiilor acestuia.

Cross “Running Brains” The start was called by Olympic Champion 2000.

From our short term memory experiment carried out during the race we were able to point out sort term visual memory is enhanced after a 5Km run.
